Instead, it will be sent to the United Kingdom.
The fleet’s captain, Commodore Jonathan Baker, told reporters Monday at the Royal Navy’s flagship carrier HMS Yorktown that the ship will be “rescued” in the wake of the British government’s decision to allow the fleet to return to its base in the U.K.
The U.S. Navy said Tuesday it had approved a new agreement with the Royal Australian Navy to send the fleet’s ships to the port of Newcastle, England.
